Celebrating Volunteers’ Week 2026
Volunteers’ Week 2026 takes place from Monday 1 to Sunday 7 June, and Cheshire West and Chester Council is celebrating the vital contribution of more than 50,000 volunteers across the borough.
From supporting vulnerable residents to improving local green spaces and delivering essential services, volunteers play a crucial role in strengthening communities across Cheshire West.
The Council is using the week to recognise the time, energy and dedication given by volunteers, and to encourage more residents to get involved.
Volunteering is a key part of building strong communities and is recognised as one of the NHS’s Five Ways to Wellbeing. It helps people connect with others, improves health and wellbeing, and fosters a strong sense of belonging.
The Council is also strengthening its volunteering offer, making it easier for residents to find opportunities and play an active role in their communities.
Maria Byrne, the Director of Place Operations at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said:
I would like to personally thank all of the volunteers across the borough who give their time to help make their communities the best they can be. Volunteering is an essential part of how we work as a community-led Council – it brings people together, strengthens communities, and provides social and wellbeing benefits for those who take part.
Summer of Appreciation
As part of the celebrations, Storyhouse Chester is working in partnership with Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA) and five other charities to deliver a Summer of Appreciation. This initiative will bring together local organisations to recognise and celebrate the impact volunteers have across the borough.
Throughout the summer, volunteers will be able to attend a range of free events as a thank you for their contribution.
