Council agrees new Domestic Abuse Strategy to strengthen protection and support for residents
Cheshire West and Chester Council Cabinet has today agreed a new Domestic Abuse Strategy 2026–2030, setting out how the Council and its partners will prevent domestic abuse, protect those who are harmed, and improve support for children, families and communities.
Domestic abuse is a serious issue affecting people of all ages, backgrounds, and circumstances. It can happen to anyone and has a lasting impact on individuals, families, and neighbourhoods. The strategy has been shaped through cross-party commitment, extensive partnership working and the lived experience of survivors.
The strategy responds to growing local need and the findings of the latest Domestic Abuse Needs Assessment. It strengthens the borough’s focus on prevention, trauma-informed support, and earlier identification of those at risk. It also reinforces the shared responsibility across partners, services, and communities to speak up when they are worried about someone’s safety.
The strategy centres on five key priority areas:
- identifying risk early
- preventing abuse through education and outreach
- improving access to support and safe accommodation
- supporting children and young people
- challenging perpetrators and reducing repeat harm

This strategy strengthens our support for children and young people, improves access to help, and sets out our shared aim for every resident to be safe and able to live free from harm.”
