The Council has announced two new bus services in the borough.

On 20 January, Stagecoach, working in partnership with Redrow Homes and the Council, launched the new 6/6A bus service between Ledsham Garden Village, Ellesmere Port and Rivacre.

Also, Flintshire County Council’s withdrawal of the Service 5 from Mold to Chester due to funding constraints, left Stanney Grange unserved, together with the link between Ellesmere Port, Deeside Industrial Park and Queensferry. With no viable service, the Council has tendered and commissioned a new 101/101a bus service to fill the shortfall.

The upgraded 6/6A service, featuring three brand-new buses, offers enhanced connectivity and convenience for local residents.

The service now operates every 30 minutes, Monday to Saturday, from approximately 7am to 7pm, and its route has been expanded.

The route serves Ledsham Garden Village and new areas like the A41, and Kendal Drive and Hope Farm. for the first time in years. It also replaces the existing E7 service, linking Rivacre to Ellesmere Port town centre and beyond.

It has direct connections across Ellesmere Port, including the town centre, rail station, and employment hubs around Merseyton Road.

The improved local access covers key residential areas such as Wetherby Way, Gleneagles Road (6), Glenwood Road, and Parklands (6A). Stops include Great Sutton, Summertrees Road, Hope Farm Road, Overpool Road, Whitby Cottage Hospital, and Morrisons.

The 101 service links Ellesmere Port and Cheshire Oaks via Stanney Grange with four journeys during the daytime. The 101A service links Ellesmere Port and Deeside Industrial Park via Stanney Grange, with eight journeys per day, including early morning and early evening links to Deeside Industrial Park and two journeys which also extend to Queensferry crossroads.

All the 101/101A services serve Stanney Grange Estate, giving an hourly daytime service. It is operated by Arriva Cymru, set up initially for 12 months, under contract to the Council.

The Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environmental, Highways and Strategic Transport, Councillor Karen Shore said:

We are working closely with partners to ensure the services needed by residents remain in place where possible. These new services will offer enhanced connectivity and convenience.

The new 101/101A service will be provided through the use of its Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP+) funding. The 6/6A service enhances the service run by Stagecoach and uses section 106 developer funding to make some improvements, including extensions into Ledsham Garden Village.

Services require some time to bed in and the Council, in partnership with operators, will react to feedback from the community before considering any timetable changes. This usually happens at set periods throughout the year, the next opportunity being in April 2025.

The 6/6A timetable information is available on-line on the Stagecoach website. The timetable for the 101/101A service is on the Arriva website.
