Cheshire West and Chester Council Highways Service is now able to provide more information regarding the road closure on the A556 in Northwich.

Excavations started last week and the extent of the collapsed drain has now been established, excavations are needed at a depth of more than three metres.

As the excavation is over 1.2 metres, a temporary work plan was arranged as quickly as possible, so the underground works can continue to replace the collapsed section of pipe. This was to ensure the safety of the operatives working in the excavation to protect them from the danger of a collapse.

Please note that the right turn lane into Penny’s Lane has been closed to allow for safe access to and from the excavation site. This is because the excavation is across both lanes.

We are working with our delivery partner and teams have worked over the weekend too, to complete these works as quickly as possible.

This road closure is having a big impact on the diversion route and local communities, so please be assured we are making every effort to complete the repair works as soon as possible to enable us to re-open the road on Friday this week, if there are no further issues. Thank you for your patience and support.
