Average read time: 3 minutes

The much-loved Verdin Exchange building in Winsford is being listed to seek market interest as it prepares for an exciting new future.

Cheshire West & Chester Council is seeking enquiries on the building from interested developers from 2 February 2026 and their ideas for restoring the building and bringing it back to use.

The Verdin Exchange building is Grade II listed and is an important heritage asset to Winsford. It is well loved by the local community, and the Council is committed to safeguarding its future.

Building surveys and investigations recently took place at the Verdin Exchange building. The works include measured survey works, site and building investigations and condition surveys to find out what could be possible for the building.

Surveys and market interest are an important part of the evidence that will help secure the future of the Verdin Exchange. Any repurposing or reuse of the building must respect its status and heritage, and any potential development must work within the wider strategic objectives of the town as the Council’s regeneration of the town centre continues.

The main elements of the construction work on the first phase of the Council led £22 million regeneration of Winsford town centre are now complete. The regeneration has boosted the local economy, with Costa Coffee and B&M joining other businesses including Peacocks, Greggs, Nationwide, MyDentist, Caprinos, Hollie&Co., Tur&Co., and Specsavers in relocating to new units in the town centre. Including construction, the project has created over 70 jobs so far. This first phase will conclude during 2026 with the transformation of Winsford Market.

As part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to the regeneration of Winsford Town Centre, the Council will explore further improvements to Winsford Library and projects in the North East corner of the town centre, where there are currently vacant and underutilised buildings.

The Verdin Exchange building is an iconic and loved building on the edge of the Winsford town centre. Its striking architecture makes it a Winsford icon, and it is a building that the community is keen to see open its doors again.

Cheshire West & Chester Council is seeking a developer who can give the Verdin Exchange a new lease of life by restoring the listed building and maintaining the community uses of the site. Councils across the country and the heritage buildings they are responsible for have faced years of underfunding, but this Council is committed to reversing the decline of the Verdin Exchange.

The first phase of regeneration works has already been game changing for Winsford. With this and future phases of regeneration, Cheshire West & Chester Council are delivering on our promise to create a town centre that Winsford can be proud of.
