Frodsham Leisure Centre – update November 2025

Since our last update Ellis Williams Architects and their project team have been carrying out the required site analysis, measured building survey, topographical survey, structural survey, roof report, utilities survey, mechanical, electrical and plumbing survey, drainage survey, biodiversity net gain/ecology assessment and associated condition surveys.

This work also includes design development, the RIBA stage 2 proposals (which explore how the project may look and inform further detailed stages of development) and developing proposed layouts and required materials for the project.

Unfortunately, the initial outline costs received so far are significantly higher than the current available budget. Therefore, further work is required to refine the initial design plans. This means that our wider community engagement activities will now take place in the New Year (further information about this will be circulated as soon as possible).

Ensuring the project is delivered within available budgets is our priority. This is a huge task and one that has to be carefully balanced to ensure the project meets the needs of the local community and users of the site. Therefore, we ask for your patience while we undertake this work and we will endeavour to come back to you with updated plans, outline designs and proposals in the New Year.

If you would like to find out more about the emerging development work, please speak to a member of the Brio team during your next visit or email: PublicHealth@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk

Frodsham Leisure Centre – update Oct 2024

Cheshire West and Chester Council and Brio are inviting residents to visit an informal drop-in on Wednesday 6 November anytime between 4pm and 7pm at Frodsham Leisure Centre to find out about the emerging plans for improving local facilities for health and well-being.

Councillor Adam Langan, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said:

Frodsham is an important site for delivery of leisure, library, health and well-being services and the Council has been working closely with Brio to engage with stakeholders and residents to understand demand and refine options so that we have a clear and deliverable plan for improvements that we know residents would like to see.

While no formal decisions have been taken yet, we want to give residents an opportunity to hear first-hand where we are in this process, share feedback received to date and also give people the chance to talk directly with staff involved in the emerging project.

Frodsham library is a valued resource and we want to re-assure residents that all options being considered retain the co-location of the library with leisure and health facilities in this location as we know so many people visit both facilities within a single trip.

Matt Parker, Brio’s Managing Director said:

it is great to see the project moving forward and with the centre going from strength to strength in terms of membership, classes and number of sports clubs using the facility. We are committed to working with the Council to build on this to further support and improve the health and wellbeing of the local community.

Following the drop-in session, information about the project will be on display in the centre, so anyone unable to attend on the day, can pick up a flyer and have a chat to staff at their next visit.

Further details about the plans will be shared.
