Helping people to move more in Cheshire West and Chester

Authors of a new Cheshire West and Chester strategy aiming to make it easier for people to move more launched their plan with a wellbeing walk.
Data shows that nearly a quarter (22.5 per cent) of adults in Cheshire West and Chester are classed as inactive
Which means they do less than 30 minutes of physical activity per week.
The Get Cheshire West Moving Strategy, coproduced by the Eat Well Be Active Partnership, aims to reduce that number by creating a borough where physical activity is the norm.
Cllr Louise Gittins, Chair of Eat Well Be Active and Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said:
This strategy is our pledge as partners to work together to make it easy for residents to be more active, more often, in ways they enjoy. We know there are a lot of barriers to people moving more – from bad memories of PE at school, to a lack of time, money or motivation. Our job is to work with residents and find ways to help break those barriers down so that everyone can enjoy those physical, mental and social benefits you get from being active.
The Eat Well Be Active partnership includes Cheshire West and Chester Council, Active Cheshire, the NHS, Brio Leisure, the School Sports Partnership, Her-Place Charitable Trust, Fallen Angels, the Mersey Forest and more.
Representatives from the partnership met for a wellbeing walk in Lache to launch the new three-year strategy.
They also celebrated the partnership’s Joyful Movement campaign, which ran throughout July. This campaign champions movement of all kinds, big or small, as long as it makes people smile.
