Improvement works start on Feathers Lane Chester

Cheshire West and Chester Council started work this week on improvements to Feathers Lane, close to Bridge Street and Commonhall Street, Chester.
The improvements to the road, pavements and landscaping will also include a new commercial bin store on land belonging to the Grosvenor Estate and a domestic bin storage area.
Councillor Richard Beacham, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Growth, Economy and Regeneration, said:
The work at Feathers Lane follows on from improvements we've already made to Leen Lane and Pierpoint Lane. Protecting and reinvigorating these historic lanes is really important for the city. Plus the location of Feathers Lane next to Chester Rows means that we need to mitigate against the fire risk that bins might pose. This project is a really good opportunity to support incremental improvements to areas of the city, whilst making sure that they can still serve a practical purpose safely.
The blue plaque on Feathers Lane reads: 'Feathers Lane this lane led to the yard of the Feathers Hotel, Chester's principal coaching inn in the early 19th century. Twenty coaches left here every day. The Feathers, situated just to the north of the lane, was demolished in 1866'.
Feathers Lane is one of four surviving medieval lanes in Chester, Godstall Lane, Feathers Lane, Pierpoint Lane and Leen Lane.
The improvement work is scheduled for completion at the end of March.
