Joint operation to tackle waste crime in Cheshire West and Chester continues this summer
The ongoing and very successful Operation Flycatcher has once again seen Cheshire West and Chester Council join forces with Cheshire Constabulary to carry out intensive enforcement throughout the borough to tackle fly tipping and waste transfer offences.
Council enforcement officers inspected reported fly-tips across the borough during the operation, in search of evidence of potential offenders. Officers also spoke to residents and posted letters to homes in the local area, asking anyone with information that might help identify those responsible for fly tipping to come forward.
Investigations are continuing where evidence was found.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Neighbourhood Pride, Councillor Stuart Bingham said:
Many fly tippers are savvy and ensure that no evidence relating to their identity is left within the waste. We need help from the law-abiding residents of the borough who witness fly tipping, and would urge anyone with information of who may be responsible for fly tipping in their area, to report the details to us. This could include witnessing the incident or capturing it on personal CCTV or doorbell cams.
Cheshire police officers and Council enforcement officers, also worked in partnership carrying out spot check stops of commercial vehicles throughout the borough.
Spot checks were carried out on commercial vehicles to make sure that, if they were carrying waste, they had the required licences and documentation to do so. The vehicles were also checked by the Police to ensure they were roadworthy , and two vehicles were seized during the operation.
Cllr Bingham added:
We will continue the fight against fly tipping and other waste crime in Cheshire West and Chester, and deal with offenders swiftly and robustly. Operation Flycatcher is one of a number of innovative approaches we are taking to dealing with these dreadful crimes that blight our beautiful borough.
