A new Health and Wellbeing Strategy has been developed for Cheshire West and Chester, setting out how organisations will work together to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities between 2026 and 2031.

Developed by the borough’s Health and Wellbeing Board, the strategy provides a shared vision to reduce inequality, increase years of healthy life and improve mental and physical wellbeing for residents across the borough.

The strategy has been developed in partnership with the Council, NHS organisations, blue light services, and the voluntary and community sector, reflecting a shared commitment to improving health and wellbeing.

It has been co-produced with partner organisations, residents, and people with lived experience, recognising the importance of working alongside communities and building on their knowledge, strengths, and experience.

Engagement took place with a wide range of organisations and community groups, including Healthwatch Cheshire West, the Poverty Truth Advisory Board and Disability Live! Chester.

A public consultation on the draft strategy was also carried out, with residents and stakeholders able to respond online, attend drop-in sessions and provide feedback through a range of accessible channels.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed their time, experiences, and ideas to help shape the strategy.

The strategy sets out eight key priorities, including giving every child the best start in life, strengthening prevention, tackling health inequalities, and supporting healthier communities.

It also supports a more joined up, community focused approach, with organisations working together through integrated neighbourhood models to provide support closer to where people live.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of the Council, said:

This strategy has been shaped by our residents, partners and communities and reflects what matters most to people across the borough.

It directly supports our Borough Plan priorities, particularly our ambition to create healthier, stronger communities and reduce inequalities, ensuring that everyone can benefit from improved health and wellbeing.

By working together, we can improve health outcomes and support people to live well, stay well and age well.
