Northwich Library will close temporarily this week
Northwich Library is closing its doors to the public temporarily to allow for a structural investigation of the rear wall of the building.
The Council has for some months been working up plans for the refurbishment of the library and work is due to start shortly.
As part of this, certain works had been identified as in need of attention relating to the age and condition of the existing timber framed building.
On the advice of a structural engineer, temporary scaffold was erected at the rear of the property as a precautionary measure.
However, further movement has been noted in the wall and the Council has instructed a structural engineer to inspect to ensure that the temporary scaffold is providing the necessary protection.
As a precaution, the Council has taken the decision to temporarily close the library whilst the inspection takes place and assurances received on condition of the rear wall.
Councillor Louise Gittins, leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said:
Alternative facilities are available at Sandiway, Barnton and Weaverham libraries which are open and will be offering extended opening hours while Northwich is closed.
Online services, including eBooks, can be accessed 24 hours a day:
All loans due back this week have been renewed for a further three weeks.
