Specially selected book bags at libraries for children starting school
Preparing your child to start school can be an exciting but daunting task. Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Libraries Service is launching “Get Ready for School” book bags as one of the ways that they can support you in preparing for this new adventure.
Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Cabinet Member for a Fairer Future, Councillor Lisa Denson said:
The Get Ready for School book bag is designed for families with children about to start school. It contains four picture books about starting school, making friends and the many other challenges faced. The perfect way to read together and talk about starting school for the first time. The pack also includes the official Council guide to getting ready for school.
There are fifteen different sets, each containing a different selection of picture books. Bags are now available to borrow from 21 libraries for free for three weeks and they can also be ordered free of charge if the bag you want is not available at your local library.
Funding for the project was provided by a Libraries Connected Microgrant. Libraries Connected is the membership body for public library services in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Crown Dependences.
It is free-of-charge to become a member of the library. You can join in person, online or over the phone. It only takes a minute or two to join, and you don’t need to bring any ID with you, so its quick and easy. The approval of a parent or guardian is needed for children to join. It is free for Under 16s to ask for books to be delivered from other libraries.
Once you have joined, you can borrow books, e-books and audio books for free, plus access free Wi-fi, use the computers free-of-charge, and enjoy free refreshments and social activities. You can also borrow tablets if you need to use one at home.
