Summer Made Easy

Residents and visitors are being encouraged to make the most of Chester this summer with simple, convenient and great-value ways to travel into the City.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has launched its Summer Made Easy campaign to highlight how easy it is to access Chester’s shops, attractions and historic streets, whether travelling by car, bus, cycle or using the Park & Ride service.

The campaign focuses on helping people spend less time worrying about travel and more time enjoying everything the city has to offer—from shopping and dining to exploring Chester’s unique heritage and enjoying family days out during the school holidays.

Park & Ride offers a straightforward, stress-free way into the city centre, with regular services running from sites across Chester with 2200 car parking spaces available. It also provides excellent value for families and groups, with under-fives travelling free, fares of just £1 for children and young people aged 5 to 18, and a £5 all-day ticket for up to five people travelling together.

Visitors can also take advantage of convenient Council-operated car parks across the City, including electric vehicle charging points at New Market Parking and the Brook Street car park, allowing people to park, charge and explore in one trip.

The campaign also promotes active travel, recognising cycling as another easy and enjoyable way to access the city. Visitors can take advantage of a comprehensive library of cycling routes into Chester, collated by Chester Cycling Campaign on their website, helping people plan their journey in advance and arrive with confidence.

New Market Parking in Chester has a dedicated secure Cycle Hub with space for 50 cycles, free e-bike charging and a tool station. Anyone wishing to use the Cycle Hub can pay a one-off £10 fee for an access card, available from the car park office within the New Market Parking to the right of the entrance.

Visitors can also travel into Chester easily by public transport, with regular bus services connecting to the city centre—journey times and routes can be quickly checked on Google Maps.

This complements the wider Summer Made Easy approach, giving residents and visitors more choice in how they travel – whether by car, bus or bike – and making it simpler to get into the city and start enjoying the day.

The Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, Councillor Karen Shore said:

Chester is a fantastic place to visit during the summer, whether you’re coming for a day out with the family, meeting friends, or exploring the City’s rich history.

Our Summer Made Easy campaign is all about helping people get here with ease, so they can focus on enjoying their day. Park & Ride offers a simple and affordable option, especially for families and groups, while our car parks—including those with EV charging—make it easy for visitors to plan their journey in a way that works for them.

We want everyone to feel welcome and able to make the most of what Chester has to offer this summer.
