Summer Reading Challenge 2020
Cheshire West and Chester Libraries is, once again, encouraging children to read more over the summer by running The Reading Agency's national Summer Reading Challenge.
The theme of this year's challenge is the Silly Squad and the library service has launched its own 'Read' webpages which includes a host of online events and competitions for children in the borough. There is also a section where you can recommend a book you’ve read.
The challenge runs throughout the summer until September and there is a Silly Squad under 13 section and teen reading challenge listed on the webpage.
Reading can be a great way to learn about the world and get inspired to take action to help others or the environment. There are some great books out there that introduce the subject to children and young people. They can help you start a conversation with your family and learn more about the world and how our choices can impact it. Here are a few you could check out.
- The Lorax by Dr Seuss
- The Trouble with Dragons by Debi Gliori
- Dinosaurs and all that rubbish by Michael Foreman
- We are all Greta by Valentina Giannella
- Song of the Dolphin Boy by Elizabeth Laird
Adults Read Two
Adults are also encouraged to get involved, with the Adults Read Two Competition. Just send in details about two books you have read this summer and be in with a chance to win a £50 book voucher in a prize draw. Perhaps you’ve read a book about climate change recently and changed your opinion on the subject or even adapted your lifestyle because of the book. How Bad are Bananas? By Mike Berners-Lee certainly gets you thinking about your own carbon footprint and might inspire others to give it a go.
