Support for residents who are struggling with financial hardship and need help will continue as the Council prepares to implement a new scheme in April.

The Government’s Household Support Fund will end on 31 March 2026. From 1 April 2026, this will be replaced by the Crisis and Resilience Fund.

The new fund will help residents who suddenly find themselves in a financial crisis, and it will also give longer‑term support to boost income and manage debt so that people feel more confident and secure when unexpected money problems arise.

Applications for the fund will open on 1 April 2026. More information, and how to apply, can be found on the Council’s Crisis and Resilience Fund webpage. There is lots of information available, so please ensure you read it all before applying:

While the Council will process applications as quickly as possible, we cannot guarantee that payments will be made before the Easter period, particularly if there is a high volume of requests.

The Government has confirmed funding for the scheme for three years, providing greater certainty for councils to support residents who need help.

The Council is working with community organisations, schools, and local partners to ensure residents know where to go for help and that information about the new scheme is shared clearly.

Councillor Carol Gahan, Cabinet Member for Legal and Finance, said: “We know many residents are still feeling the pressure of rising costs and it is important people know support will continue.

“The Crisis and Resilience Fund will replace the Household Support Fund from April and will continue to provide support for residents experiencing financial hardship.
