Alley gating

An alley gating order allows alleyways to be restricted by installing a lockable gate and has been proven to be successful in reducing:

  • alcohol related disorder
  • burglaries and shed break-ins 
  • vandalism and anti-social behaviour  .

Alley gates are only installed with the backing of local residents and keys will only be given to residents who can show they need them.

Money for alley gating is limited but applications are also accepted where funding can be found from an alternative source, for example housing associations or residents.
