Kings Moat Community Primary School is a new state-of-the-art primary school being built in the Kings Moat Garden Village, Chester. The village is a substantial new community of around 1300 homes on the southern edge of Chester.
Progress is being made on the construction
The project is on track to handover to the Sandstone Trust in July 2026. Once complete, the school will sit centrally within the development with new homes surrounding the school and be located close to the new community playing fields, 3G pitches and public park.
The school has been commissioned by Cheshire West and Chester Council and after a phased opening will offer:
210 places, to serve the residents of the Kings Moat housing development off Wrexham Road
The Sandstone Trust have been appointed to run the school when it opens in September 2026. This experienced academy trust already manage four schools in the Cheshire West and Chester area.
Monthly Highlights:
The site is really taking shape! Scaffolding has now been removed, giving a clear view of the progress. Around 90% of the windows are in place, and plastering on the ground floor is almost complete, bringing us one step closer to the finished look.
November saw the completion of all brickwork, and significant progress was made on the cladding, adding to the building’s exterior appeal.
Wynne Construction commenced the build of the new Kings Moat Primary School in March 2025. The works are progressing on programme and Wynne Construction expect to be completely watertight before the end of this year.
Roof works are completed which has allowed the site team to commence the internal fit out activities. The construction of the new internal partition walls on the ground and first floor is progressing quickly and Wynne have also commenced the mechanical and electrical first fix in the building.
Wynne have completed all drainage and laying of topsoil to form the new playing fields, which enabled them to seed the pitches in September. This will ensure that the sports pitches are ready for use when the new primary school opens next year.
Applying for a school place
Applications to apply for Reception 2026 opened on 1 September and will close 15 January 2026. Further information about primary applications, or to apply for a school place can be found on our school admissions pages.
Parents wanting to apply for year 1 and 2 will apply for an ‘in-year’ application, the application process will open 17 April 2026 and close 17 June 2026, the school will co-ordinate and notify applicants of the outcome.
