Home energy help for residents
Solar Together Cheshire and Warrington
Buying solar panels and battery storage made easy
Residential housing makes up a substantial proportion of the borough’s greenhouse gas emissions. One way to help reduce this is to use renewable energy sources to power residential homes.
As part of Cheshire West and Chester Council’s work to help the borough to become carbon neutral by 2045, the Council is working with neighbouring local authorities, Cheshire East and Warrington Borough Council, and independent experts iChoosr Ltd, to offer residents the opportunity to benefit from:
This is the third opportunity for local people to join the Solar Together scheme in west Cheshire. During the first two rounds in 2023 and 2024, 440 people in the borough installed solar panels and/or battery storage through the scheme. The scheme provides residents with the opportunity to join a group-buying scheme, which offers high-quality solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and battery storage. The scheme also offers retrofit battery storage for residents who have already invested in solar panel and are looking to get more from the renewable energy they generate, as well as increase their independence from the grid.
This group-buying scheme, which brings west Cheshire households together to get high-quality solar panels at a competitive price, will help you through the process and keep you informed at every stage.
Planning Permission
Solar PV installations are considered a 'permitted development' and will generally not need planning permission. However, in some cases, such as in Conservation Areas and on Listed Buildings, planning permission may be required. For planning advice please visit the Council’s planning webpage: Permitted development

How does it work?
You can register for free and without obligation at:
Register by Friday 17 October, by simply providing details about your roof, such as its size and orientation.
A reverse auction will be held where our pre-approved UK solar installers will submit bids for the work. The more people that register, the better the deal should be for each household. The installer with the most competitive package will win the auction.
You will be emailed your personal recommendation based on your registration details. This includes your costs and specifications of your system.
The decision is then yours whether you want to accept your recommendation. There is no obligation to continue. We will let you know how long you have to accept your recommendation and update you before the scheme closes.
If you accept, the winning installer will contact to survey your roof and set an installation date.
Helpdesk support
Telephone and email support are on-hand throughout the whole process, which, together with information sessions, will allow households to make an informed decision in a safe and hassle-free environment.
