Whitby Park

Whitby Park has been awarded Green Flag status, a prestigious award which is the national benchmark for parks and open spaces. This indicates that the park has fulfilled the judging criteria and is a safe, welcoming and well maintained park offering a range of recreational and leisure opportunities for people of all ages.

Whitby Park is the main green space in Ellesmere Port offering a range of activities. The park is ideal for:

  • family picnics
  • dog walking
  • participating in sporting activities

The park also has lots of facilities for young people and it regularly hosts community events.

Native Flora and Fauna

There are three areas of the park which promote native flora and fauna.

  • Main pond - located in front of Whitby Hall and fishing is permitted at this pond
  • Grassland habitat area - located behind the bowling greens
  • Small woodland - located on the far side of the park on Park Drive

All of these areas have relaxed maintenance regimes to encourage the establishment of various insects, mammals and birds. There is also a Field of Hope, a commemorative feature which was established by Marie Curie Cancer Care. During the spring a display of daffodils can be seen to remember those people who have been touched by cancer. We also have a Covid-19 memorial garden next to the Field of Hope.

Location

The park is located off Stanney Lane, Ellesmere Port, CH65 9AQ.

Parking and access

The main entrance for pedestrians and vehicles is from Stanney Lane. Parking, including disabled spaces, is available for park users except when the fun fair is in residence.

There is an accessible circular route through the park which is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs. There are also dropped kerbs and some of the play equipment is designed disabled children.

There are public toilets inside Whitby Hall which are available when the café is open. Opening times are advertised outside Whitby Hall.
