Carey Park

Carey Park is part of Northwich Woodlands and is the closest park area to the town. Opened in 2003 and named after Councillor Ron Carey who was active in bringing about the regeneration of the site, Carey Park is located on the site of the former Witton landfill. A seven year reclamation project turned the area into a woodland and nature reserve.

Carey Park is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) with rare grasses, wild flowers and butterflies thriving alongside other wildlife.

Location

Carey Park is located off Marbury Road, Comberbach, Northwich, CW9 6AT. Car parking is available at Witton Mill Car Park, off Marbury Road.

The park is located near to Northwich town centre. There are two gates into the park, one on Marbury Lane and the other on Leicester Street. Visitors can also enter over Carden's Ferry footbridge which creates a through route between Anderton and Northwich along the bank of the River Weaver.

Further information

Carey Park is one of nine sites which make up the Northwich Woodlands. Created from what was once largely derelict land, the Woodlands now provides a rich and green environment to the north of Northwich town centre. Each of the nine countryside sites that make up the Northwich Woodlands has its own unique character and history.

The Weaver Navigation and the Trent and Mersey canal flow through the heart of the Woodlands adding further variety to the landscape. Its network of surfaced paths provides many routes accessible to all and appeals to a variety of users including horse riders, cyclists, nature lovers and families.

Exploring further afield

Stroll through the meadow at Furrey Wood, follow the wildflower trail at Anderton Nature Park or try your hand at orienteering in Marbury Country Park.

With the exception of the island site of Furrey Wood, all other sites lie within the heart of the Northwich Woodlands. Cyclists can explore the links with national cycle ways, whilst pedestrians can combine a visit to Northwich Woodlands with routes such as the North Cheshire Way.
