Graffiti and vandalism

Graffiti is the writing or drawings that are scribbled, scratched, or sprayed on the surface of any property.

We remove graffiti from land and property that we own such as subways, street furniture, litter bins or public buildings.

If you notice graffiti on council owned land, please report it to us providing:

  • the date and time you saw the graffiti
  • details of the location
  • if possible, include a photograph.

Graffiti on privately owned street furniture, such as telephone boxes, bus shelters, railways and waterways should be reported to the owner or utility company:

Report it

How long does it take to be cleared?

Depending on the content of the graffiti, we aim to clear within:

  • offensive graffiti: Within 24 hours of reporting, subject to resource availability and access
  • non-offensive graffiti: Removed as quickly as possible

The police have extensive knowledge of local tags (signatures used by graffiti artists) to identify the culprits and will require a photograph of the graffiti before it is removed.

Private Land

We do not remove graffiti from private land as this is the responsibility of the landowner.

If your property has been defaced with graffiti, then please report this to the police by telephoning 101 as an incident of criminal damage and/or anti-social behaviour.

If you are a private landowner, it is your responsibility to remove the graffiti. If you would like to obtain a quote for removal, please get in touch with us
