Dispensation permits and Chester city centre access
We allow commercial vehicles to park with a dispensation permit (works permit) in locations where otherwise they would be in contravention of parking restrictions, but only where the vehicles are essential to enable the following works to be carried out:
- maintenance, building, excavation and demolition works
- furniture removal
- glaziers involved in emergency repair work
- plumbers, electricians and gas fitters on emergency call outs
How do I request a permit?
Permits must be requested at least 24 hours before the work is due to commence. Please email: parking@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk with the full information of the work that is to take place. Applications made on the day of the work can be made in person at The Forum, Chester.
How much does it cost?
Permit charges per day:
- one: £10
- two: £20
- three: £50
- four: £70
- five: £90
Chester city centre access
Access to Chester city centre access is limited to the following between 10.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Saturday.
Permit holders and Taxis
Access permit holders and dispensation permit holders may enter the pedestrianised area at any time. Taxis are allowed into Frodsham Street and Foregate Street to get to the taxi rank.
Apart from certain limited exceptions, taxis are not allowed in some of the other central shopping streets between 8am and 6pm. This applies only to black Hackney carriages and not private hire vehicles which are restricted in the same way as ordinary cars.
