Post-Brexit Policy Commission
Background
Cheshire West and Chester Council has established a cross-party policy commission (or 'working group') to better understand and plan for the potential local implications for the Council of the UK's decision to leave the European Union (Brexit).
Working group members will consider themes and issues over which the Council has some influence, either directly or indirectly, including:
- The local economy
- Funding currently received by the Council and its partners
- Workforce implications and Skills
- Future impact on legislation
Broadly, the objective of the group will be to shape how the borough could plan for a Post-Brexit future, and develop practical recommendations for the Council to take forward. In the course of its work, the Policy Commission will hear from external experts and local partner organisations to understand the potential implications of Brexit on the wider borough.
Call for evidence
In the New Year, there will be a public evidence session. This is designed to give residents, businesses and wider partners an opportunity to send their views and suggestions on how the Council can best plan for a post-Brexit future.

There are no strict content requirements. However, the Post-Brexit Policy Commission is not intended to act as a forum on the merits or otherwise of the decision in 2016 to leave the EU, so views expressed should be limited to how the Council should plan for a post-Brexit future.
As a guide, some of areas of focus include supporting the local economy, funding changes, supporting a skilled workforce, and the impact on legislation and regulation.
