Chester Rows

Overview

Chester’s unique Rows are an important aspect to the city’s heritage. The Rows are located across the four main streets, Eastgate, Northgate, Watergate and Bridge Street, within Chester’s historic core. They comprise a second tier of buildings offering a range of retail, hospitality, residential and office space.

The Rows date back to Medieval Chester and comprise of architecture covering the past 2,000 years, with Roman crypts to be found in some of the buildings. This unique make-up provides a degree of challenge but also provides a fantastic experience to businesses and residents located on the Rows.

The below guide, developed by Chester BID contains a wealth of practical information on trading from al-fresco licensing rules, how to use stallboards, right through to fire protection, waste management and how to report maintenance issues in the public spaces.
