Direct payments

Help and support

We offer comprehensive support for people receiving direct payments through our direct payments support service.

The direct payments legislation requires that people who are interested in receiving direct payments should have access to independent, good quality information, advice and support when considering or receiving direct payments.

We offer information, advice, and support for:

  • employing staff, including advertising, recruiting, contracts of employment, wages, tax and National Insurance
  • contracting with other agencies, including using agencies approved by health and adult services, specifying the services you want and your rights as a contractor
  • completing returns for the local authority

Where can I get help with direct payments if employing a PA/Carer ?

We currently work with Disability Positive who are a charity and Disabled People’s Organisation that provides support to service users. Disability Positive’s arrangement of care and support service offers ongoing technical advice and support to direct payment recipients.

Your social care worker can refer you to them for support or you can contact them directly.

How can I end a direct payment agreement?

If you no longer require a direct payment service, we will need to carry out a final audit of your account.

If you or a family member manages your DP account you should forward copies of all your bank statements, timesheets, record sheets, invoices, and receipts for the period from either the start of service or from the date the last audit was completed, up to the date you have paid your final care invoices.

Should any monies need to be returned to you, such as any overpayment of your contribution we will contact you to arrange this.

However, if any unauthorised expenditure or non-payment of your assessed contribution is discovered, you will be expected to pay this to us.
