Preventing Radicalisation
Venue hire
The Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015 and the Prevent Duty Guidance place an expectation on us to ensure that all publicly owned venues and resources do not provide a platform for extremists and are not used to disseminate extremist views or ideologies that are linked to terrorism.
Council venues
The Prevent Guidance for Venue Hire (PDF, 167KB) has been developed to assist our staff and relevant partners to meet these obligations. In general, bookings must not incite hatred, intolerance, law breaking or violence, nor must they pose a reputational risk to us.
Public venues
The Public Venue Hire Guidance (PDF, 286KB) is for non-council venues to assist in their decision making when hiring out spaces to the public. The guidance aims to reduce opportunities for providing space for those who radicalise people into participating in, or supporting, terrorism or providing a platform for extremist views and incitement of hatred.
Prevent awareness/training
You can access training courses on the Prevent duty, the threat from terrorism and extremism in the UK and how to support people susceptible to radicalisation. More information can be found on the Gov.UK website: Prevent duty training.
