Start Well

Overview

Our Commissioning Intentions

  • We will review the service model for Starting Well with children and young people and their families who use the service in 2023. The Starting Well service is for children, young people aged 0 – 19 (25 for SEND) and their families that integrates the Children’s Centre core offer with statutory Public Health services within the Healthy Child programme (including health visiting and school nursing). Family Nurse Partnership is also included within the contract. The service delivers a ‘Think Family’ approach providing holistic support for children and their families intervening at the earliest point when support is required. The development of the service model will include co-production and engagement.

  • In 2024 we will review the Short Breaks Commissioning Strategy in preparation for 2025 and we welcome providers to take part.
  • We will commission more after school and holiday short breaks for those with more complex needs.
  • We will coproduce a new overnight short breaks offer and seek to commission service opportunities.

  • We will coproduce a new model for care at home and in the community with children, young people, families and providers.
  • We want to work with providers to develop our approach to outcome-based commissioning and welcome providers or other organisations who have experience of this to work with us to develop our approach.
  • We will continue to pilot and grow the use of micro-providers in adult social care and seek to roll this out to children and families following evaluation.
  • In 2023 we will review our approach to direct payments including the approach to how care is arranged.
  • We will tender any service opportunities relating to the arrangement of care paid for by a direct payment in 2024.
