Catching up on routine vaccinations
Measles cases are increasing in Cheshire and Merseyside.
A highly infectious viral illness, measles spreads very quickly amongst those who are unvaccinated.
It can be very unpleasant and, in some cases, can lead to hospitalisation, complications and, in rare cases, can cause death.
Vaccines are our best line of defence against diseases like measles and they can help stop outbreaks in the community.
Check if you and your family are up to date with two MMR doses by contacting your GP. It is never too late to catch up - the MMR vaccine is free on the NHS, from one-year-old upwards.
You can book an appointment with your GP, or visit the NHS Living Well bus when it is in your area.
The Living Well bus
Run by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, visits different parts of the borough each week.
It offers:
- Health checks
- Routine vaccinations, like MMR
- Seasonal immunisations, like flu or COVID-19
- A chance to discuss any health concerns.

If you think you have measles
Anyone with measles symptoms is advised to stay at home and phone their GP or NHS 111 for advice, rather than visiting the surgery or A&E, to prevent the illness spreading further.
Symptoms include a runny nose, cough, high fever, sore red watery eyes and a blotchy red-brown rash.
