New pedestrian crossing schemes 2026-27

Upgraded crossing at Mill Lane, Upton

From Monday 5 October we will be upgrading the crossing on Mill Lane in Upton by installing a new controlled pedestrian crossing.

What to expect during these works

The team will be in the area for around six weeks for the works, which will involve the renewal of kerbs, drainage, signals improvements and footway and carriageway surfacing.

Traffic Management:

There will be a one-way closure (westbound) from Liverpool Road for the duration of the works, to allow us to complete the works safely.

Access will be maintained eastbound only into Mill Lane from Liverpool Road up to Egerton Drive but no exit westbound will be available through this section of road – The exit will be via the signed diversion from Mill Lane to Church Lane, Upton Lane and back onto Liverpool Road.

That there will be no exit onto Mill Lane from Upton Drive as this will be fully closed at the junction.

Vehicle access:

Access will be maintained for residents and businesses in a westbound direction only.

Pedestrian access:

When working in the footway it will temporarily be closed, a clear marked diversion route will be in place for pedestrians to pass safely.

Businesses:

Access to businesses will be maintained throughout these works.

Weather delays:

Since this work depends on weather conditions, heavy rain or poor weather may mean we need to reschedule at short notice. The information boards will always show the most up-to-date dates and this page will be updated.
