Moss Farm

We are currently working with on-site clubs, groups, users and other partners to make improvements to Moss Farm Leisure Complex in Northwich.

The vision for the site includes building on the fantastic offer for the community already in place and to provide leading sports facilities for the area, increasing the numbers and diversity of people who use the site.

The project aims to develop a viable, self-sustaining mix of facilities to meet the needs of the local area and empower on-site clubs and organisations to manage the site.

Regular Newsletters will be circulated to adjacent residents and stakeholders on the site but can be forwarded on request.

Progress to date

  • Surface and drainage renovations to swap the football to a rugby pitch, next to the sand-dressed Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP) were completed in September 2023.
  • New Third Generation (3G) AGP Cheshire West and Chester Council, funding by the Council with an additional grant awarded by the Premier League, FA & Sport England through the Government’s Football Foundation. This is the second 3G AGP on the site.

The pitch was one of at least 30 that benefit from the Football Foundation’s Lionesses Futures Fund and will help meet the growing demand for women’s and girls’ football. The pitch will prioritise access for women and girls through reserved peak-time slots and welcoming changing facilities to create a best-in-class experience and is managed by Cheshire FA.

  • Full refurbishment of the Sand Dressed AGP, this AGP can be used for Hockey, Netball, Tennis and training for other sports and is managed by Sporting Communities.
  • Access Improvements, construction of a pedestrian entrance to the site off Dahlia Crescent to link the northern side of the Winnington housing developments to the site and encourage sustainable travel to the site, reducing car usage and improve active travel options.
  • Refurbishment of the 2 red brick storage barns, and demolition of the metal clad barn structure.
  • Tree works, removal of the overgrown Leylandii hedge from around the cottages to improve visibility and safe access around the site. Replacement mixed species hedgerows will be planted to improve biodiversity within the ‘orchard’ area.

Further Improvements scheduled

  • Demolition of the old red brick ‘Nursery building’ and concrete garages (Spring 2026)
  • A new car park will be installed during 2026 to accommodate extra visitors to the facilities with 60 parking bays and cycle racks (Spring/Summer 2026).
  • Future options for the cottages to provide complimentary use for the site (Summer 2026)
  • Refurbishment of the Rugby changing facilities (Autumn-Summer 2026-27
  • Main car park improvements with additional marked bays (Summer 2027)
