Public toilets

Spend a Penny Initiative

We are aiming to map all toilets in our busy shopping areas through our ‘spend a penny Initiative’. We currently have a list of toilets available in Winsford and Chester and hope to add more.

Using the map below you will find a list of all available toilets, the type of facilities available, and any conditions of access. This way you can map your shopping journey taking account of your particular toilet needs or preferences.

What is the 'Spend a Penny Initiative'

Chart showing access types

The Spend a Penny Initiative is a mapping exercise, offering information on toilet provision within our shopping areas. Designed to give shoppers the choice of toilet access, businesses have been asked what facilities they have, times of access, and what  the conditions of access are.

Pie chart with values

Many have allowed free public access, whilst some are customer only. The majority  allow discretionary access, enabling people with a medical condition, the elderly or pregnant women emergency access without the need for purchase.

Wider Facilities

To find other general publicly accessible toilets in the borough and across the UK visit  The Great British Public Toilet Map.

The project aims to map all publicly-accessible toilets UK wide; that means all toilets that the public can access without needing to be a customer.

Please note: the information comes from the public so anyone can go on the website and add, edit or remove toilets so the information may not be accurate.
