Proposed closure of the residential provision at Archers Brook

Background

The Governing Body of Archers Brook SEMH Residential School and the Council are proposing to permanently close the schools residential provision, at Chester Road, Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port, CH66 2NA.

The proposal comes at the request of the governing body who have concluded that it will no longer be capable of operating the residential provision within its delegated budget.

The Council agrees with the governing body that the current level of demand presents significant challenges to the long-term sustainability and value for money of the provision.

The consultation 

Following a period of informal consultation held by the school, the Council are proceeding to a period of notice and representation which will run from 11 June 2026 to midnight 9 July 2026. It is an opportunity for people and organisations to express their views about the proposal and to ensure these are taken into account in the decision-making.

These will need to be completed and returned to us by the closing date midnight of the 9 July 2025.

What happens next?

All feedback received during the formal consultation period will be considered as part of the final decision. The final decision will be made by the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People.
