No Excuse for Single Use Plastic campaign

No Excuse for Single Use - Plastic bottle in the seaAs part of the summer campaign, the Council's Recycling team worked with the Friends of the Countess of Chester Country Park to encourage people to bring a plastic-free picnic along to the Picnic in the Park event in August.

Plastic Free Chester got involved by judging who had the most plastic-free picnic, with the winning family receiving a prize hamper from the Council’s Waste Management team.

Top tips for going plastic free were promoted on Dee106.3 radio station and a member of the team did the 60-second sell on the afternoon show with Mike James. A leaflet was sent out to all residents with tips and information on what can be recycled and social media posts have been shared on Twitter and Facebook.

The team was also at a number of events and the Council's libraries over the summer, with activities for children to help educate them about plastic waste and the recycling process.

Alongside the campaign, the Chester and District Friends of the Earth group has recently run a children's poster competition about single use plastics. The Council will be using some of these images to put up signage along the River Dee, encouraging people to use alternatives to plastic and not drop litter.
