Will you qualify?

Post 16 hardship/low income

For young people aged 16-18, there is no duty to provide free travel assistance. Most of our local colleges have very good transport services and sixth forms can provide support for travel assistance with means-tested bursaries or their own school buses. More information can be found in Appendix 2 of our post-16 travel assistance policy (PDF, 236KB). Or alternatively you can search on the individual websites.

However, for young people aged 16-18 where families are on low income and where the young person is attending the nearest provider to the home address offering the chosen course at an appropriate level which is more than three miles away, we may provide travel assistance. This is only when the college or sixth form has no travel options for where the young person lives. This is usually in the form of a bus or rail pass.

To qualify for assistance, you will need to complete an application form that details your income and expenditure. This will be passed to the benefits team for an assessment.
