Latest update

Work on the traffic signal upgrade is progressing well. Daytime excavation and infrastructure works will continue until 24 August, followed by around two weeks of daytime work to install new signal poles and cabling.

Traffic management remains unchanged, with Hoole Lane closed and single-lane traffic running on the A51 throughout the project.

Overnight resurfacing works are scheduled between 24 August and 2 September (7pm to 6am), subject to weather conditions:

24 August: Removal of the existing road surface
25 August: Resurfacing the A51 carriageway – outbound of Chester
26 August: Resurfacing the A51 carriageway – inbound towards Chester
27 August: Resurfacing Hoole Lane and road marking on the A51
28 August: Road marking to the A51 and Hoole Lane junction
1-2 September: Loop cutting for traffic signal detection loops

If weather conditions remain favourable and works progress as planned, the new traffic signals are expected to be switched on and the route fully reopened during the week commencing 7 September.
