Certain HMOs require a HMO licence. A HMO licence is required when there are 5 or more unrelated people sharing. The licence is mandatory and includes conditions on property management, fire safety, kitchen and bathroom facilities, room sizes and waste disposal provision

HMO licence applications can be made online which includes a facility for online payment of the licensing fee. You can apply via the Gov.UK website:

Applications to renew or amend existing HMO licences can also be made on the Gov.UK website.
