Information for tenants

Student housing

Students have the same rights as other private tenants and there are a number of organisations that can provide advice and support.

Student accommodation must be safe for occupation and have suitable fire precautions in place. Many students live in a shared house or House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) and additional rules apply to these properties.

Landlords are not able to discriminate when offering rental accommodation, however many have tenancy start times that align with term dates and they work closely with the University to advertise properties.

The University of Chester uses StudentPad to advertise private sector properties. Landlords are required to be a member of the Cheshire Landlord Accreditation Scheme.
