Major road schemes and issues
A540 Raby Park Road junction improvements
This scheme has been in development for a number of years following a fatal accident at the junction.
Grosvenor Bridge, Chester
Unfortunately, the Bridge has been hit by vehicles twice in a six-month period - in March 2022 and then again in October 2022. In both cases, vehicles heading out of Chester failed to negotiate the left-hand bend onto the bridge and collided head on with the parapet. These impacts caused masonry blocks to fall on the footpath and cycleway below.
Installation of anti-terrorism bollards at Chester Racecourse
The Council is working with Chester Racecourse to enable them to install sockets for anti-terrorism bollards on roads around the venue. There is no intelligence to suggest that there is a specific threat posed to the Racecourse. However, the vehicle security bollards will prevent a hostile vehicle or accidental vehicle from entering the crowded pedestrian areas. The work is scheduled to begin in April and will require several road closures while it takes place.
King Charles III England Coast Path
The King Charles III England Coast Path will be longest managed coastal path in the world. It will go all the way around the coast of England and will be around 2,700 miles long when it is complete.
Queens Park Suspension Bridge
Following routine inspections of the 100-year-old bridge in spring 2023 a structures report was commissioned that has revealed issues with the metal work requiring immediate attention.
Sandy Lane, Chester
Severn Trent Water is laying a new water pipe from Huntington Water Treatment Works to Boughton Water Treatment Works. Work begins January 2024 for 12 months.
