Northwich recycling centre

Coronavirus (COVID-19) and new rules

Recycling centres are open and working to temporary site rules.

Closed right now

Opens: Sunday 8:00am - 4:00pm

To comply with social distancing rules, only four cars are allowed on site at any one time.

At peak times, queues may exceed one hour to reach the site entrance.

Please be advised that it may be quicker to visit the Winsford Recycling Centre; this site is much bigger and can accommodate more cars at the same time.

You may wish to consider visiting one of larger capacity sites in Chester or Ellesmere Port, where it fits in with your travel plans.

You can also arrange for bulky items to be collected for a small charge.

Opening hours

Please note: during the Christmas period there will be changes to the opening hours, more information can be found on our Christmas changes page.

Summer opening hours, April to September
Monday - Tuesday 9am - 5pm
Wednesday - Thursday closed
Friday - 9am - 5pm
Saturday and Sunday 9am - 5pm

Winter opening hours, October to March
Monday - Tuesday 8am - 4pm
Wednesday - Thursday closed
Friday - 8am - 4pm
Saturday and Sunday 8am - 4pm

Closed: Christmas day, Boxing day and New Years day.  On other bank holidays we are open as normal.

Please note: Due to COVID-19 restrictions and the introduction of social distancing measures we are limiting the number of cars allowed on site at any one time. This means that there could be queues to get onto the site. When this happens we operate a one car off, one car on system and the gates to the recycling centre will close earlier than advertised to make sure that those already on site can recycle their waste correctly and safely before the scheduled closing time. You could be asked to return to the recycling centre on the next open day.

Please be aware that sites may also close earlier than the advertised closing time if it is dark or there is bad weather. This is for safety reasons. We thank you for your consideration during this difficult time.

It is important to recycle batteries correctly as they can become harmful if they are damaged. More information about why it is important can be found on our recycling batteries page.

Safety and restrictions

We do not accept asbestos, gas cylinders, tyres.

Trailers over 2.5m in length are not permitted.

Vehicles 3.5 tonnes and above gross vehicle weight are not permitted.

Sites may close earlier if dark.

You cannot take waste onto the site by foot.

Do you need a permit?

You no longer need a permit for this centre.  We now monitor visits using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), mystery shoppers and body camera technology.

Reuse shops

Please note: the reuse shop is currently closed.

To maximise reuse, we now have a shop at Northwich. Items for sale include bric-a brac and some furniture. This will increase the amount of waste reused which is preferable to both recycling and waste disposal.

We currently do not accept or sell small electrical items, car seats and helmets as these require safety testing and there is no facility for this on site.

We only take cash payments for reuse items at this site.

Our code of conduct

We aim to provide the highest standard of customer service to our residents. More information can be found on our code of conduct page.
