Business Improvements District
Overview
If you’ve received a Business Improvement District (BID) bill for the first time, you may be wondering why.
Your BID bill is also known as a BID levy. A BID levy is separate from your Business Rates bill and helps fund projects and services that support businesses and improve the local area.
If your business is located within a BID area, you may be legally required to pay the levy.
A BID levy is not the same as Business Rates.
Business Rates Relief does not normally reduce your BID levy. Even if your business receives Small Business Rate Relief, Charity Relief or another Business Rates Relief, you will usually still need to pay the BID levy if your property is liable.
What is a Business Improvement District (BID)?
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a defined geographical area where local businesses work together to invest in projects and services that benefit the area.
The levy paid by businesses is used to deliver projects that have been agreed by businesses through a formal ballot.
Each BID decides how levy income is spent in line with its approved Business Plan.
