Payment information

Who pays the levy?

The BID levy is payable by the person or company we have recorded as liable for Business Rates for the property.

How much do I need to pay?

The amount you pay depends on:

  • which BID area your property is located in
  • the rateable value of your property
  • the levy rules set by that BID

Levy percentages, minimum charges and exemptions vary between BID areas.

If you would like a breakdown of your BID charge, please contact the Business Rates Team.

Do I have to pay?

Yes, if your property is liable for a BID levy, payment is mandatory.

The levy remains payable even if:

  • you did not vote in the BID ballot
  • you voted against the BID proposal
  • you do not directly use BID services
  • your business receives Business Rates Relief

Does Business Rates Relief affect my BID levy?

No, Business Rates Relief does not reduce your BID levy. This includes:

  • Small Business Rate Relief
  • Rural Rate Relief
  • Charity Relief
  • Supporting Small Business Relief
  • Retail, Hospitality and Leisure support
  • Empty Property Relief

Unless the BID arrangements specifically provide an exemption, the BID levy remains payable.
