6.7.1 Lintels

MUST

All windows or doors with a width greater than 300mm must have lintels, except where the eaves, a cornice, or window or door surround conceal the space above.

MUST

Brick homes must feature brick or stone lintels and cills for windows and doors.

MUST

All lintels must be detailed to conceal the underside of steel lintels or beams.

SHOULD

Stone lintels should be one piece. Where they need to be subdivided, they should be divided into an odd number of segments so that the mortar joint is not in the centre of the windows or door.
