Teaching Assistant course

Become a Teaching Assistant header

If you would like to become a teaching assistant, the Skills and Employment Service offers the qualification you need.  The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools runs from September in various schools and locations across the borough.

Throughout the 11 month course, you will take part in face to face workshops alongside your paid or voluntary role in a school setting.

Last year's courses were hugely successful with 18 of 21 students gaining employment as a result.

In order to enrol, you must have GCSEs Grades A-C/4-9 (or equivalent) in English and maths or be willing to complete an assessment to demonstrate Level 2 skills.

The course starting in September 2025 is full and we are now enrolling students to start in September 2026.
