Introduction

1.2. What is a Design Code?

This chapter outlines the purpose of the code, explaining how it guides the creation of sustainable, well-designed places that positively reflect the character of Cheshire West and Chester.

A design code is a recipe for a place. It consists of clear, specific, and unambiguous rules that help define design quality within a particular context. It provides certainty for planners, architects, applicants and residents by setting out what ‘good looks like’ and what is needed to gain planning permission.
