6.6.5 Dormer windows

MUST

Dormer windows allow for an additional storey without significantly altering the height of houses. They must be in keeping with the building to which they are added in their placement, scale and design.

SHOULD

The total width of all the dormer windows on a roof plane should occupy no more than 40% of the total width of the roof plane.

SHOULD

Dormer windows should have a roof pitch equal to or at most 5º lower than the roof on which they sit.

MUST

Dormers must be clad either in slate or clay tiles, render, lead, or to match the materials of the rest of the home. They can also be painted white or clad in timber in the Suburban and Village Area Types.
