Energy Efficiency, EPC and Minimum Standards
The Domestic Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard ( MEES ) Regulations set a minimum energy efficiency level for domestic private rented properties.
All rental properties must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of band E (SAP 38) or above, or have a valid EPC exemption in place. EPCs last for 10 years.
You can find the energy efficiency rating of any property by postcode:
Assistance may be available to help improve the energy efficiency for occupants. National and local grants are available for home owners, landlords and tenants.
The Government is currently consulting on increasing the minimum energy efficiency standards for private rents. Further details can be found on the Gov.UK website.
