6.1 Identity introduction
Cheshire West and Chester is a borough with a rich history. This is reflected in its variety of settlement types, street patterns, and building styles. This chapter sets expectations for new developments to respect and reinforce the identity of their context in support of Local Plan Policy DM3 (Design, character and visual amenity).
Where a local design document exists (e.g. Conservation Area Appraisal, Village Design Statement, Neighbourhood Design Code), its design guidance must be followed.
In the event of a discrepancy emerging between the borough-wide design code and any subsequent neighbourhood level design code, Conservation Area Appraisal, Village Design Statement or any other local design guidance, then this borough-wide code will take precedence.
