6.10 Shopfronts

Cheshire West and Chester contains a variety of high quality and well-preserved historical shopfronts, a heritage that is worth preserving and replicating. This section of the code provides borough wide design principles to ensure that any new shopfronts reflect local heritage.

MUST

Cheshire West and Chester Council has existing shop front guidance which must be referred to. Developments within the historic rows of Chester must refer to detailed guidance set out in the Chester Rows Design Guide (2022).

Developments within the Northwich town centre must refer to detailed guidance set out in the Northwich Shop Front Design Guide (2014).

MUST

New frontages must include legible and level door access.

SHOULD

New shopfronts need not to be precise replicas of historic examples, but should incorporate traditional elements as outlined in the following code to reflect local vernacular.
