Housing strategy/prospectus

Key messages

To achieve these aims, we want to work with developers, housing landlords and social care providers to:

  • Increase the availability of good affordable supported living options for people with care needs estimated to be 350 new units over the next 10 years.

  • Create a new dual registered housing with support service for up to 60 young people aged 16-25 with additional care needs to help them as they move into adulthood.

  • Create more capacity for short stay and respite care (emergency and planned)

  • Increase the supply of very specialist housing with support for men who have forensic or other intensive support needs.

  • Ensure people have the choice of suitable accommodation throughout their lives particularly as they move from childhood into adulthood and as they grow old.

  • Encourage housing and care provider partners to plan, co-design, and deliver outcome-focused housing.

  • Turn around the deficit position of vulnerable people with care needs struggling to access housing to one where they have diversity and choice to live positive independent lives in their communities.

  • Encourage developers, landlords and social care providers to collaborate on housing models which can deliver better outcomes for people whilst also enabling efficient staffing models.

  • Collaborate with tech providers to identify opportunities for using technology to support greater independence and improve outcomes.
