Supported housing

National Statement of Expectations (NSE)

The NSE outlines the government's vision for sector practices and sets recommendations for accommodation standards. Our commitment to this initiative is part of our broader efforts to enhance oversight, ensure quality, and provide value for money in our housing services.

Key areas to focus on:

1. Contemporary housing solutions

  • Develop modern housing solutions that meet the needs of individuals.
  • Include self-contained and shared housing within local communities.

2. Market facilitation

  • Support and facilitate the housing market to meet the demand.
  • Encourage partnerships with housing developers, health and social care providers, and registered social landlords.

3. Sustainability and innovation

  • Promote sustainable housing solutions with a low carbon footprint.
  • Encourage innovative approaches to housing and support.
  • We welcome the opportunity to engage, work and develop our delivery plans with Homes England in alignment with their priorities.
  • Commitment to support partnership approach and delivery of a pipeline of new developments.
  • Emphasis on shared ownership models e.g. Home Ownership for People with Long Term Disabilities (HOLD).
  • Move towards place-based regeneration.
  • Our aim is to transform our supported housing offer to align with the national Supported Living Improvement Programme.

Example floor plans

The following floor plans are taken from one of our recent supported living schemes, designed with a strong focus on person-centred renovation to meet the needs of individuals with learning disabilities.

They illustrate how thoughtful design can promote independence, comfort, and safety in a supported living environment.
